Michael West joined the University of Texas sports medicine staff in 2008 as the assistant athletic trainer for baseball. He spent the previous five years working with the Florida Marlins as the strength and conditioning coordinator for their minor league system, helping design and implement their strength and conditioning program, designed injury prevention exercise programs, and assisted with rehabilitation efforts for both minor and major league athletes. Prior to joining the Florida Marlins, Michael worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Nebraska from 2001-2003. He was the primary athletic trainer for baseball and also assisted with football during his two year tenure.
Michael earned his master’s from the University of Nebraska in 2003 specializing in athletic administration. His undergraduate studies began in his home town of San Diego, CA where he earned his bachelor’s in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from San Diego State University in 2001. Michael became an NATABOC certified athletic trainer in 2001, an NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist in 2003, and a licensed athletic trainer in Texas in 2008.
