Sport: Baseball (1978-79)

Hometown: Okmulgee, Okla.
- A two-year letterwinner at shortstop for the Longhorns during the late 1970s
- Helped lead his team to a SWC title in 1979 and ended the year finished fourth in the country
- Earned first-team All-SWC honors in 1979
- Still holds the school record for most RBIs in a single game (10) that came against Arkansas on March 5, 1978
- Drafted in the sixth round by the New York Mets and played five seasons there before becoming a manager
- Became manager of the Minnesota Twins in 2002 and by 2004 he was selected as the American League co-manager of the year by Sporting News.
- In 2006, he became the first manager in Twins history to have five consecutive winning seasons and the third manager in Major League history to reach the playoffs in four of his first five seasons as manager.
