Cox and Johnston named first-team All-Americans

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- University of Texas junior closer J. Brent Cox and senior shortstop Seth Johnston were tabbed first-team All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Sunday, June 19.
While the All-America accolades mark the fourth and third of the 2005 campaign, respectively, for Cox (Bay City, Texas) and Johnston (Boerne, Texas), it is the second first-team honor for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year and the initial first-team selection for the first-team All-Big 12 shortstop. Notably, while Cox and Johnston account for two of the 17 first-team All-Americans selected by the ABCA, they also become the 37th and 38th first-team All-Americans in UT history.
Cox, who has made 38 relief appearances to date, owns a 7-3 record to go along with a 1.94 ERA , 17 saves and 75 strikeouts over 69.2 innings of work. Johnston, meanwhile, paces the Longhorns as well as the Big 12 with a .387 overall batting average while driving in a team-high 65 RBI and collecting a league-best 111 hits, which is one base hit shy of matching the school single-season mark of 112 set by former Longhorn Tim Moss in 2002.
