AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas junior pitcher J. Brent Cox (Bay City, Texas), senior shortstop Seth Johnston (Boerne, Texas) and sophomore outfielder Drew Stubbs (Atlanta, Texas) were included among three teams making up the list of 2005 TPX Louisville Slugger All-Americans as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Friday, June 3. Additionally, Johnston was also named one of 13 semifinalists for the 2005 Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy, awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate player, on Friday as well.
While Cox and Johnston each earned second-team All-American accolades and Stubbs garnered third-team laurels, Johnston was one of two Howser Award semifinalists from the Big 12 Conference and Cox picked up his second All-America honor of the 2005 campaign as he was a second-team selection by USA Today/Sports Weekly last week. Of additional note, Johnston's inclusion on the semifinalist list for the Howser Trophy, which will have its winner announced on June 17, now places him in contention for two national player of the year awards as he is also a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award.
First-team All-Big 12 position players, Johnston paces the Longhorns with a .402 batting average, 98 hits, 54 RBI, 147 total bases and a .602 slugging percentage entering NCAA Regional play, while Stubbs is hitting .324 overall with a team-best 58 runs scored, 10 home runs and 27 steals to his credit. Cox, meanwhile, who also garnered first-team All-Conference laurels, owns a league-best 14 saves to go along with a 7-2 record, a 1.77 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 61 innings of work, which have spanned 33 relief appearances.
