FULLERTON, Calif. -- Junior righthander Meagan Denny held No. 21 DePaul scoreless for 6.0 innings, but a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning lifted the Blue Demons to a 2-1 victory over No. 8 Texas, Thursday evening at the Judi Garman Classic. The loss snapped UT's 13-game winning streak and moved the Longhorns season mark to 22-4, while DePaul improved to 13-5 on the year.
Texas scored the game's first run in the bottom of third inning when senior first baseman Jacqueline Williams tagged her third home run of the season, giving the Horns a 1-0 lead.
Denny (14-3) held the Blue Demons scoreless over the first six innings, scattering three hits before surrendering a one-out two-run home run to rightfielder Sandy Vojik in the top of the seventh inning. The junior hurler allowed two runs in 7.0 innings of work, while striking out nine batters and walking two.
DePaul centerfielder Linda Secka reached base on a fielder's choice to start the Blue Demons' seventh-inning rally and came home on Vojik's game -winning two-run blast.
Megan Huitink (4-1) earned the victory for DePaul, holding UT to one run in 7.0 innings of work, while scattering five hits and striking out two Longhorns.
Senior catcher Megan Willis collected a hit in the game, extending her career-high hitting streak to eight games.
Texas returns to action Friday, March 16 when it takes on Penn State in its final game of pool play at the Judi Garman Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. (Central).
