LUBBOCK, Texas -- University of Texas junior Emily Anderson netted her second goal of the season to lift the ninth-ranked Longhorns past Texas Tech, 1-0, in Lubbock Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Texas extended its winning streak over the Red Raiders to nine straight matches dating back to Oct. 8, 1999. UT improves to 2-2-1 in Big 12 play and 9-2-2 overall while the Red Raiders fall to 7-6-0 and 2-5-0 in league action.
Texas took the lead 24 minutes into the match off a Courtney Gaines corner kick. Gaines sent the ball into the middle of the Red Raider box where Anderson was able to put her head on it and send it to the back of the net for her second goal of the season, both of which have come on set plays.
The Longhorns held possession for almost the entire first half recording 15 shots, the most in a half this season, while only allowing Tech take four.
In the 68th minute, sophomore Niki Arlitt almost gave the Longhorns their second goal when she brought Rincon out of the box on the right side. Arlitt's shot was deflected to Gaines whose subsequent shot on an empty goal was also blocked by a TTU defender.
As the clock counted down, Tech's offensive attack picked up but the Longhorn defenders proved to be too much and squashed any attempt of a comeback, including two corner kicks in the 78th minute.
Texas returns to Austin next weekend to host Oklahoma and No. 13 Oklahoma State. UT takes on the Sooners at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 followed by a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 19 with the Cowgirls.

POSTMATCH QUOTES
HEAD COACH Chris Petrucelli
On the team bouncing back after loss at Colorado: This was a hard weekend. There were two good teams and a lot of travel in between so we showed a lot of character today (with the win).
On the team's offensive spark: We just talked about trying to get the ball forward a little more and penetrate more. We were able to get some shots which was good to see.
On what next week's game plan: We got to go back home and do some work and figure out where we are going to be on Friday.
