No. 1 Men's Swimming and Diving defeats No. 8 Auburn, 139-102

AUBURN, Ala. -- No. 1 Texas (4-0) claimed 10 of 14 events en route to a 139-102 victory at No. 8 Auburn Thursday afternoon at Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
Freshman Drew Livingston swept all three diving events for the Longhorns, and Texas added victories in seven of nine individual swimming events, including two wins apiece from freshman Jackson Wilcox and junior U.S. Olympian Ricky Berens.
Auburn opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay, but Wilcox answered by winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:10.87. Livingston, who claimed the one-meter diving event on Wednesday, followed by claimed the three-meter diving event with 413.10 points. Senior Jonathan Wilcox placed third with 370.66 points.
Senior Michael Klueh led a one-through-four Texas effort in the 200 freestyle, as he was victorious in 1:36.42. Junior Peter Jameson took second in 1:38.19, and senior Sean Patton placed third in 1:38.69. Senior Ryan Verlatti took fourth in 1:38.82. Junior Dave Walters touched in 20.16 to capture the 50 freestyle, where freshman Jimmy Feigen took third in 20.47.
Berens notched his first victory in the 200 IM in 1:48.09. Senior Agustin Magruder placed third in 1:49.86, and sophomore Brian Wilson took fourth in 1:49.86. Berens competed in the very next event, the 200 butterfly, and ran down Auburn's Tyler McGill to pick up his second consecutive win. Trailing McGill by nearly a second after 150 yards, Berens rallied to win in 1:46.69 and top McGill by 19 one-hundredths of a second. Jackson Wilcox took third in 1:48.99.
Auburn responded with victories in the 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke, but Jackson Wilcox added to an already solid meet by winning the 500 freestyle in 4:25.64. Klueh took second in 4:28.71, and sophomore Scott Jostes completed the one-two-three Texas finish in 4:29.68. Livingston completed his diving sweep by capturing the platform event with 434.77 points. Sophomore Matt Cooper placed third with 401.47 points.
Magruder scored a victory in the 200 breaststroke, where he finished in 1:59.99. Freshman Eric Friedland placed third in 2:01.09, and junior Dan Nyaradi added a fourth-place showing in 2:06.79.
Texas resumes competition on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Georgia.
