| AUSTIN, Texas -- Freshman Austin Dicharry earned his first career victory and combined with senior Keith Shinaberry and sophomore Chance Ruffin to pitch a shutout in the No. 9 Texas Longhorns 3-0 win over the Dallas Baptist Patriots at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday evening.
Dicharry (1-1) weaved 7.1 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out eight. Shinaberry entered the contest with a runner on second in the seventh inning and induced a pair of groundouts to get out of the jam. Chance Ruffin retired all three batters he faced in the ninth inning, including one strikeout, to earn his first save of the season.
Texas (15-6) drew first blood in the bottom of the third inning. Kyle Lusson drew a lead-off walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy, stole second base and scored on a single through the left side of the infield by Michael Torres.
The Longhorns tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Russell Moldenhauer reached on a one-out infield single. He was replaced at first base by pinch-runner Tim Maitland who scored when Kevin Keyes bounced a double off the wall in the left centerfield gap.
Texas added an insurance run in the seventh. Cameron Rupp singled up the middle, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lusson and scored on a single through the left side by Loy.
Loy led Texas' offense going 2-for-2 with one sacrifice bunt and one RBI. Lusson went 0-for-0 at the plate with two walks, one sacrifice bunt and one stolen base.
Ryan Goins accounted for three of Dallas Baptist's five hits in the game, going 3-for-4 with a double.
Victor Black (3-1) was saddled with the loss for the Patriots. He yielded three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven over 7.0 innings.
Texas returns to action on Friday with the start of a three-game Big 12 series against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Game times for the series are 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

On tonight's victory: It feels better to win than lose. It's a game that we needed and we got quality pitching from Austin Dicharry, Keith Shinaberry and Chance Ruffin to finish the game and keep the shutout in place. We made some real good adjustments to one of the best pitchers we've seen all year. He was throwing 95 MPH and sometimes a little better and was able to get a breaking ball over. We didn't fall into the trap of trying to catch up, we made adjustments, shortened up our swing, made some good contact and that was probably one of the smartest games we've played. It showed some experience in how to handle a very good pitcher. We're a lot more comfortable here than we are on the road, I'll tell you that.
Righthander Austin Dicharry
On his 7.1-inning scoreless outing: For some reason I get stronger as the game gets on. I think it's more finding my rhythm, when I find my rhythm later on in the game it shows up on my performance.
On his command of his offspeed pitches: I've really worked on my changeup and curve ball with coach Skip [Johnson] a lot and he has done a great job with it. Today we just mixed that in and worked out really well for us.
Outfielder Kyle Lusson
On the varied roles he's played for the team so far: Coming off the bench and for defensive purposes. It's in the approach and you're in the game longer and you just have to be ready to help the team any time you can.
Rightfielder Kevin Keyes
On his RBI double in the sixth inning: I talked to Coach Harmon after my second strikeout, he told me shorten my swing. In my third at-bat I was thinking about being a lot shorter, seeing the ball and not chasing balls off the plate. I saw a hanging breaking ball and thought it was a pitch I could drive. I think I made a good adjustment from my first at-bat to my third and fourth.
On his recent success at the plate: I think it's been a lot of work in the cages, facing our pitchers in practice. Our pitchers are very good, they pitch just like the pitchers we face over the weekend. It's good preparation and it helps us a lot. We don't need to adjust much from practice to games.
