Hey Longhorn fans,
So far this fall, we have had a great time getting to know each other and working hard through our fall season. We had a couple practice days where we split into two teams and completed various challenges like tug-of-war and team sit ups, really bringing out everyone's competitive side. We've already played four games and we're really excited about the upcoming spring.
Just to make things a little interesting, we recently decided to make our Thursday practices into themed dress up days. It allows us to have some fun in changing things up a bit while still working hard in the mornings. This idea stemmed from something Coach Clark saw on TV, describing the Tampa Bay Rays. Their coach would give his team a theme for some of their travel days, where the players would dress accordingly.
This Thursday, the first of our themed practices, we all dressed up in Halloween costumes. Our coaches all kept it pretty simple, dressing as black eyed peas, while Taylor Hoagland showed up as the Texas Longhorn version of the title character from the kids book series "Captain Underpants." We also had a box of crayons (Kim Bruins, Taylor Thom and myself), a pair of fairies (Amy Hooks and Lexy Bennett), and some escaped prisoners (Blaire Luna and Torie Schmidt). There was also a wide range from hunters to lions to a sorority girl. Although we were able to have a great practice in costume, it was a little difficult at first to focus with Amy wearing her blue tutu with her catching equipment. It was a great start to our themed practices, and a great way for us all to show off our creative side.
We've had a great start so far and have three more games left in our fall schedule and would love to have you all come out to see the new team!
Have a great Halloween and Hook 'Em!
