Soccer falls to Oklahoma, 1-0, in Big 12 Championship Quarterfinals

SAN ANTONIO -- The University of Texas Soccer Team fell to fourth-seeded Oklahoma, 1-0, in the 2010 Big 12 Championship quarterfinals Wednesday morning. Texas will now wait to hear if it will be selected for the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship which will be announced on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. Central on Nov. 8.
OU netted the game winner in the 14th minute when Whitney Palmer brought the ball down the left side and sent a cross into the middle of the box to Caitlin Mooney. Mooney was able to get around the Texas defense and fired a shot to the lower left corner of the net past keeper Alexa Gaul.
Texas created chances and outshot Oklahoma 14-11 but was not able to connect. Junior Kylie Doniak had a close chance in the 27th minute but her attempted was blocked by a diving Kelsey Devonshire. Doniak had another good look in the 63rd minute but volleyed it just over the cross bar.
In addition to outshooting the Sooners, Texas held the advantage on corner kicks, 5-2 and Gaul made three saves to Devonshire's seven.
Texas moves to 11-5-4 on the season while Oklahoma is now 10-7-2 and will advance to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship.
