No. 3 Baseball coasts to 14-1 win over Oklahoma State

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 3 Texas Longhorns keep their winning streak alive after a 14 -1 victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas continued their strong offensive production and got a complete game out of Taylor Jungmann to extend the win streak to 14 games and the Big 12 win streak to 12 games.
Texas (32-7, 14-2 Big 12) got the scoring going early. After back-to-back walks to Brandon Loy and Tant Shepherd, Cameron Rupp sent a three-run shot off the top of the scoreboard to put the Longhorns up 3-0 after the first inning.
The Longhorns added a run in the bottom of the second with Kevin Lusson leading off with a double down the leftfield line. Lusson then swiped third before coming around to score on a Cohl Walla RBI single.
Oklahoma State (23-14, 5-8 Big 12) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Tom Belza led off the inning with a single, and Kevin David doubled down the left field line putting runners on second and third. Mark Ginther then hit a sacrifice fly to deep right to plate Belza and cut the Longhorn lead to 4-1.
Texas answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning. Lusson hit a two-out double, and Connor Rowe brought him home with a triple to left-center.
The Longhorns continued their scoring production with a four-run fifth. Loy led off the inning with a single. Shepherd followed with a bloop bunt single and Rupp was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kevin Keyes then hit a double past a diving center fielder to bring in Loy and Shepherd. Russell Moldenhauer's single then plated Rupp and Keyes, extending the Longhorn lead to 9-1.
Texas continued to add to their lead in the sixth inning. Loy drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Shepherd followed with a walk, and Rupp drove both runners in with a double. Keyes then singled through the middle bringing Rupp in, and pushing the lead to 12-1.
The Longhorns put up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Loy smoked a single over the Oklahoma State shortstop. After a passed ball moved Loy to second, Shepherd hit a two-run bomb to end the scoring at 14-1.
In the past four games, the Texas bats have really come alive. The Longhorns have outscored their opponents 57-3 while outhitting them 63-15.
Rupp led the Longhorn offense going 2-for-4 with a home run, his sixth of the year, and a double and scored three runs with five RBI. Shepherd went 2-for-3 on the day with his seventh home run of the season, along with four runs and two RBI. Loy also went 2-for-3 with four runs, Keyes added two hits, one double and three RBI and Rowe went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, one run and one RBI.
Belza scored the only Cowboy run and went 2-for-4. Ginther went 1-for-3 driving in Belza.
Jungmann (4-1) went the distance giving up only one run on four hits, while striking out eight for his first complete game this season, and second of his career. Longhorns starting pitchers have yielded just one run over the last 34 innings of Big 12 action.
Oklahoma State starter Thomas Keeling (3-5) pitched 4.0 innings giving up nine runs on eights hits and three walks, while striking out six. Chance Deason pitched a scoreless fifth inning, and Matt Peck was shelled for five runs on five hits and two walks through the last 3.0 innings.
The Longhorns will go for their 15th win in a row on Saturday against the Cowboys with a 2 p.m. first pitch at UFCU Disch-Falk field.

On team's performance in recent weeks: We saw the pitching and we knew that would be there from the beginning. And we developed the defense and we thought that would be there, although we had three new infielders to develop and the defense has held up and now the hitting has slowly come along and progressed. We are taking more and more quality at-bats which is our objective. We are making use of more innings. We and winning the 3-and-2 count battles and the two-strike battles and we are also sustaining the rallies with two outs. And those are things we have been trying to take care of.
On the team's defense: I thought the defense maintained the momentum. It kept the momentum under control. The second double play was a very difficult one. You see that messed up all the time. But (Brandon) Loy's throwing ability is uncanny. He is about as accurate as you can get. But what it takes for a pitcher the size of Taylor to get there in time and be under control to make the catch is good discipline and good fundamentals.

On getting the win: It's a good feeling. I just went out there and did my job and the guys scored a lot again today. I've been telling Cole (Green) and Brandon (Workman) that I could throw a complete game. They have been messing with me saying I couldn't get one, but tonight I got to finish one off.
On the double plays in the first and the second innings: Those were really big and they saved a bunch of pitches. You can't ask for anything more than a double play. Today I had a lot of left-handed batters, so I wasn't going to try to strike too many guys out and I was just letting them put it in play they made some plays for me so that was good.

On the improvement of the team's batting: We are having a lot of fun right now. We are having a lot of fun at the plate. We are coming to the ball park knowing that we are going to do well. At the beginning of the year we were struggling to get going, but now we are just having boat loads of fun. It's just a great thing.
On the defensive effort: We knew our defense was going to be good all year. That's what coach has us do during practice. We work on our defense. Sometimes we take for granted what we do between the lines, but we have a great middle infield in Jordan (Etier) and (Brandon) Loy and Connor (Rowe) is one of the best centerfielders in the country and Cameron (Rupp) is one of the best catchers which makes it really easy on us to play defense.

On his third inning double: It was huge. We had a man on base and two strikes and you just have to try to put the ball in play. I ended up getting a double and it worked out for us. I usually hit it, and watch for a minute and then put my head down and run, but when I hit that one I knew I was going somewhere.
On staying confident during weekend series: We just have to continue to come out and play hard and don't develop any expectations. Coach has been saying that repeatedly. We just go out there and play and we are having fun doing it. We know when to be serious and know when to joke around and we know how to play the game and that's been the key for us all year.
