Georgia Tech leads the event at 3-under par, and UCLA sits in second at 2-under par. Illinois holds third place at 2-over par, and Georgia is in fourth place at 3-over par. Alabama rounds out the top-five at 4-over par. Individually, LSU's John Peterson leads at 5-under par and holds a one-shot lead over Georgia Tech's James White.
The top-eight teams after Thursday's third and final round of stroke play will advance to the match-play rounds on Friday. The national champion will be crowned on Sunday, June 5 when the match pitting the final two teams is decided. The NCAA individual champion will be crowned on Thursday pending the conclusion of the final stroke-play round.
Starting from the 10th tee, Frittelli (Pretoria, South Africa) played a spotless opening nine holes highlighted by birdies at the 14th and 18th holes. Frittelli took a 1-over 73 into the clubhouse and ended the day tied for 46th place at 4-over par.
Hakula (Espoo, Finland) matched his 73 from the opening round and endured a roller coaster round that featured only four par scores. POST-ROUND COMMENTS
Texas head coach John Fields
On the round
"We had an unfortunate finish to the round. We thought we would finish quite a bit better. We've put ourselves in a position where we'll tee off early tomorrow, which is okay. We need a great round tomorrow and need to find our way into that final top-eight. There will be some teams fighting hard tomorrow, and we need to be one of those teams hitting a lot of fairways, a lot of greens and making some putts.
"There was more of a breeze today, but it was a breeze; it wasn't windy. It was coming out of the southeast, which in some cases made a few of the par-fours little stronger. I heard (Cody) Gribble got off into the wind on 10 and got off to a bad start with a triple, but he really came back and played some solid golf. We can't cry over spilled milk. We need to play good golf tomorrow."
On the rounds from Dylan Frittelli and Toni Hakula
"They both played well. I'm sure they feel like they left some shots out there too. Dylan closed with three bogeys in the last five holes, and I'm sure he's not happy about that. Toni Hakula on the other hand, just had a real up-and-down round. The good news with him is he made a lot of birdies and was able to put up a good number."
