No. 4 Men’s Golf in third after day one at Valspar Collegiate Invitational

Maas and Potter are tied for 10th in the individual standings at 6-under through 36 holes.
PALM CITY, Fla. — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a two-round total of 20-under 548 (268-280) on Monday to rest in third place after the opening day of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club. Seniors Christiaan Maas (66-70) and Luke Potter (67-69) are tied for 10th in the individual standings with 36-hole scores of 6-under 136.
In Monday's morning round, Texas counted scores from Maas (5-under 66), Potter (4-under 67), sophomore Daniel Bennett (4-under 67) and senior Tommy Morrison (3-under 68) for a team score of 16-under 268. During the afternoon round, the Longhorns counted scores from Potter (2-under 69), Morrison (2-under 69), Maas (1-under 70) and Bennett (1-over 72) for a team score of 4-under 280.
No. 2 Auburn holds a two-stroke lead in the team standings at 30-under 538 (264-274), while No. 11 Texas Tech is second at 28-under 540 (273-267). The Longhorns are 10 strokes off the lead at 20-under 548. The 16-team field features four squads in the top 10 and nine teams in the top 25 of the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (March 6).
Jaden Dumdumaya of USC (63-68) and Florida State's Tyler Weaver (65-66) share the individual lead after the opening 36 holes with two-round scores of 11-under 131. Ryder Cowan of Oklahoma is third at 9-under 133 (65-68). Maas and Potter are tied for 10th and five strokes off the lead entering the final 18 holes.
The Valspar Collegiate Invitational concludes with a final round on Tuesday, March 24. Texas will be paired with Auburn, Texas Tech and Florida State during Tuesday's final round which begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT (8:30 a.m. PT).
The Lineup
- Senior Christiaan Maas carded a 36-hole total of 6-under 136 (66-70) and is tied for 10th in the individual standings. Starting his morning round on hole 6, he posted a clean card of five birdies (holes 6, 7, 14, 18 and 5) and 13 pars en route to his 5-under 66.
- Senior Luke Potter fired a two-round score of 6-under 136 (67-69) and is also tied for 10th place. Starting his morning round on hole 9, he tallied five birdies (holes 13, 15, 17, 18 and 7) against one bogey to post his 4-under 67. Potter followed with four birdies against a pair of bogeys in his afternoon round of 2-under 69.
- Senior Tommy Morrison recorded a 36-hole total of 5-under 137 (68-69) and is tied for 19th. Starting his morning round on hole 8, he registered seven birdies (holes 8, 15, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7) and an eagle on the par-five 13th hole to post his 3-under 68. Morrison followed with five birdies against three bogeys in his afternoon round of 2-under 69.
- Sophomore Daniel Bennett carded a two-round score of 3-under 139 (67-72) and is tied for 31st. Starting his morning round on hole 5, he tallied six birdies (holes 7, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15) against a pair of bogeys to post his 4-under 67.
- Graduate Matt Comegys fired a 36-hole total of 3-over 145 (71-74) and is tied for 60th. Starting his morning round on hole 7, he registered three birdies (holes 11, 4 and 6) against three bogeys to post his even-par 71.
