AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore Bertine Strauss fired her second consecutive subpar round to pace the Texas Women's Golf team in second-round action at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Monday afternoon at The University of Texas Golf Club. As a team, the Longhorns enter Tuesday's final round tied for fifth place. Strauss is in fourth place individually at 4-under-par 140 and trails the 36-hole co-leaders by just two strokes.
Strauss' scattered a quartet of birdies around her home course on the third, fourth, 11th and 16th holes. Her only blemish came on the par-4, 379-yard 10th hole where she made bogey. Through 36 holes, Strauss is the only Longhorn without a double bogey or more on her scorecards.
Senior Desiree Dubreuil (76-72) matched Strauss' four birdies with as many of her own on holes five, 12, 13 and 16. A double bogey on nine and a pair of bogeys on 15 and 18 balanced her birdies and resulted in an even-par round. Dubreuil is tied for 28th place at 4-over 148. Senior Katelyn Sepmoree is also tied for 28th with back-to-back rounds of 74.
Senior Haley Stephens (76-74) carded 17 pars but was tripped by a double bogey on the par-4 sixth hole. She is tied for 37th place along with senior Madison Pressel (76-74) at 6-over 150.
Freshmen Taylor Kim (76-74) and Natalie Karcher (72-78) are also tied at +6 while competing as individuals. Freshman Tezira Abe (75-76=151) and junior Alyssa Morgan (84-82=166) round out the Texas individuals.
Florida (293-280=573) and Alabama (284-289) share the top position on the team leaderboard at 3-under. Arizona State (290-286=576) and Arkansas (288-288) are knotted in third place.
The Gators' Camilla Hedberg (71-67) and Tide's Jennifer Kirby (69-69) are the 36-hole co-leaders at 6-under 138. Alabama's Stephanie Meadow (69-70) is in third place and one stroke ahead of Strauss at 5-under.

POST-ROUND QUOTES
Texas Head Coach Martha Richards
On today's round: I think we've continued to play a lot of really good golf. We've had a few big numbers - a couple of doubles and triples - but other than that, we've played really well. I'm surprised we didn't' make a few more birdies today with the conditions being perfect, but I'm really proud of how we're playing. We're fighting hard, and they did a really nice job today.
On challenging for the team title: The biggest thing we have to do is trust that we know how to play this golf course. We need to trust our golf swings and be ready from the get-go. We've got some birdies out there because I've seen all these kids make a ton of birdies on this course. If we make as many birdies as we're capable of tomorrow, we can make things interesting.
Sophomore Bertine Strauss
On today's round: The weather was great today and the wind hardly blew--it didn't make much of a difference. It got a little bit warmer earlier on, so that was good. It was another good round. I left a few out there that I could hopefully get tomorrow and maybe go even lower.
On whether playing her home course gives her a confidence boost: I think just knowing all the ins and outs and knowing the places where you can conquer makes a big difference. I know when to go for a flag and when not to go and I think that's definitely helped me today. I think it's a good advantage.
On whether her current standing in the top five will impact her strategy for tomorrow: Pretty much the same as I've done the last few days because it seems to be working--no point in changing that. I'll just go out there tomorrow and have fun and stick to my game plan.
On wearing pink for breast cancer awareness today: I know a few of the girls and coaches have had had people [in their lives] affected by breast cancer, in particular, and I've had a few friends that have passed away from cancer. I actually had someone from back home pass away on Sunday, so I think it's something that's very close to all of our hearts. It just gives us a little bit of extra inspiration to play harder and to play for someone else and not just ourselves.
