AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas Baseball program received national letters of intent from 10 student-athletes to play for the Longhorns in 2014, head coach Augie Garrido announced today during the early signing period.
The class includes left-handed pitcher/outfielder Trey Ball (New Castle, Indiana/New Castle HS), catcher Tres Barrera (McAllen, Texas/Sharyland HS), infielder Bret Boswell (Rockwall, Texas/Heath HS), first baseman/right-handed pitcher Kacy Clemens (Houston, Texas/Memorial HS), right-handed pitcher Morgan Cooper (Jarrell, Texas/Jarrell HS), right-handed pitcher Blake Goins (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS), infielder Zane Gurwitz (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill HS), left-handed pitcher Jon Malmin (Troy, Texas/Troy HS), infielder Andy McGuire (Oakton, Virginia/James Madison HS) and right-handed pitcher Lukas Schiraldi (Cedar Park, Texas/St. Michael's HS/Navarro College).
Schiraldi will be a junior while the other nine players are incoming freshmen. Schiraldi and Clemens are the sons of former major league baseball pitchers and two key members of the 1983 Texas national championship squad (Calvin Schiraldi and Roger Clemens).
"We want good baseball players here at the University of Texas," Texas Baseball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Tommy Nicholson said. "I don't get caught up in terms of what a particular player is ranked. For us, it's about bringing in guys with good attitudes who know how to play the game the right way along with having room to grow as a person."
