No. 21 Baseball falls to No. 4 Arkansas, 7-3, at Houston College Classic

HOUSTON, Texas - The No. 21 Texas Longhorns fell victim to a four-run fifth inning by the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks and dropped a 7-3 decision in baseball action at the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park on Sunday morning.
The Razorbacks jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Tim Carver singled into shallow left centerfield and Jimmy Bosco followed with a single through the left side of the infield to start the frame. Dominic Ficociello hit a double into the gap in left centerfield to knock in both runners for the 2-0 lead.
Texas (4-7) cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second. With one out, Brooks Marlow was issued a walk and Jacob Felts reached on an error by Arkansas third baseman Matt Reynolds. With two outs, Kirby Bellow laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate Marlow.
The Longhorns knotted the game at 2-2 in the home half of the third. With two outs, Erich Weiss deposited a hit on the chalk down the leftfield line for a double. Jonathan Walsh followed with a double down the rightfield line to send Weiss home.
Arkansas (10-2) reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Reynolds hit a 2-2 offering over the leftfield wall for a 3-2 advantage.
The Razorbacks added four runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-2. The run featured an RBI grounder by Bosco, pinch-hit RBI single by Joe Serrano, bases-loaded walk by Matt Vinson and sacrifice fly by Jake Wise.
Texas trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the sixth inning. Walsh singled up the middle and Marlow walked to start the inning. Walsh moved to third when Felts grounded into a double play and scored on a wild pitch.
Ricky Jacquez (0-1) was saddled with the loss in his first collegiate start. The freshman allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.0 innings.
D.J. Baxendale (4-0) picked up the win for Arkansas. He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.0 innings.
Walsh led Texas, going 3-for-4 with one double, one run and one RBI. Weiss added a pair of hits.
Serrano and Bigham paced Arkansas' offense with two hits apiece.
Texas returns to action on Tuesday when the Longhorns host the Dallas Baptist Patriots in a 4 p.m. contest at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
