Ryan Dohner and Craig Lutz notch All-America finishes in the men’s 10K; Marielle Hall earns second All-America honor in women’s 6K.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Ryan Dohner, Craig Lutz and Marielle Hall became two-time cross country All-Americans and the Texas men placed 14th as a team on Saturday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Dohner and Lutz crossed 11th and 15th, both their highest finishes at the national meet, in 30:18.1 and 30:22.9 to lead Texas in the men's 10,000-meter race. It marked only the fourth time in program history and the first time since 1988 that the Longhorn men tallied multiple All-Americans in the same year.
Hall followed with a 29th-place finish in the women's 6,000m with a time of 20:40.0. After posting the highest finish for a UT woman at NCAAs since 1989 last season, Hall became just the fourth two-time cross country All-American on the women's side in Texas program history.
The Texas men, who entered the day ranked No. 23 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, recorded 376 team points for their 15th top-15 finish at the national meet.
Following Dohner and Lutz, Mark Pinales crossed 125th with a time of 31:32.0 with Collin Smith following in 146th (31:46.0). Chris Galvin rounded out the scoring for UT in 163rd (31:54.5). Austin Roth (187th, 32:10.4) and Eduardo Rodriguez (225th, 32:35.4) also raced for Texas.
Colorado won the men's team title with Oregon's Edward Cheserek taking home the individual title. Providence was the top team on the women's side and Abbey D'Agostino of Dartmouth was the women's individual champion.
The Longhorns' indoor track season kicks off Jan. 17, 2014 at the Arkansas-Texas Dual in Fayetteville.
