PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- The Texas Women's Golf team climbed one position on the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge leaderboard with the aid of a season-low 2-under-par 69 by senior Madison Pressel in Tuesday's second round at Palos Verdes Golf Club. Through 36 holes, the Longhorns (299-290) are in fourth place at 21-over 589, while Pressel (75-69) is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard at 2-over 144.
The Longhorns' second-round team score of 6-over 290 was the second-best among all 16 teams in Tuesday's round. Only 36-hole leader Southern California (298-280=578, +10) topped Texas' team scorecard.
Pressel failed to let bogeys on the first and third holes derail her second round, and she picked up her first of four birdies on the seventh hole and made the turn at +1. After a stretch of four straight pars, she sank her second birdie on No. 14 and capped off the round with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18. Pressel began Tuesday's round tied for 30th place following an opening-round 75 (+4).
Sophomore Bertine Strauss (77-71=148, +6) also made a leap into the top-20 on the individual leaderboard from a tie for 43rd to 18th place. Strauss balanced four birdies and as many bogeys for an even-par second round scorecard.
Senior Desiree Dubreuil (74-75=149) trails Strauss by one stroke and is tied for 23rd place. Seniors Katelyn Sepmoree (74-77) and Haley Stephens (76-75) are tied for 37th place at 9-over 151.
The Longhorns will conclude the 54-hole Northrop Grumman Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. CT in a shotgun format beginning on Nos. 1-5.
