WACO, Texas - Lawton Langford drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning Saturday while Austin Stone struck out a career-high 10 batters in six innings as the Baylor Bears defeated the Texas Longhorns, 1-0, in Big 12 action at Baylor Ballpark. Baylor (23-20, 10-6) will look for the sweep tomorrow against Texas (22-19, 5-12).
Stone allowed four hits with three walks while Crayton Bare threw a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to get his second save on the year.
Jacob Felts registered his first three-hit game of the season with a double for the Longhorns.
Duncan Wendel was hit by a Dillon Peters pitch to start the Baylor fourth before Steve DalPorto singled. Adam Toth then laid down a perfect bunt to first, loading the bases. After Brett Doe fouled out to first for the second out, Langford worked the count full before drawing the walk for the lone run of the contest.
Peters took the hard-luck loss despite going seven innings for Texas and giving up only one run on six hits with three walks, three hit batters and five strikeouts. Brooks Marlow led off the seventh with a double, followed by Codey McElroy drawing a walk. Baylor reliever Josh Michalec then struck out Ben Johnson and got Weston Hall to ground out into a 1-6-3 double play. With runners at the corners and two way in the UT eighth, Michalec struck out Ty Marlow on a full-count pitch to preserve the lead.
The series concludes tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. and will be carried on television by Fox Sports Southwest with radio on AM 1300 The Zone. Gametracker live stats will be available on TexasSports.com with live Twitter updates @Texas_Baseball.
