Texas head Coach Jerritt Elliott:
On the break: I think it gives us an opportunity to train in some areas that we see on film and get better in some disciplinary areas. We gave them yesterday off for a mid-week break because we practiced on Sunday. We will get back at it hard today, because this is a big match for us coming up.
On K-State: I have been on the road recruiting, so I haven't seen too much of them yet, but I will tonight. They are very steady, their numbers have been very good, they're very well disciplined and obviously they've been on a hot winning streak and they're playing at home. It's a tough environment, but I think we need to play in these environments to be tested.
On playing in hostile environments: I love it, it's good and we need to be as uncomfortable as possible when we go to these environments because it's going to help us come NCAA Tournament time. We have a very good team and sometimes we can win 3-0 and that's not what you always want to do. You want to get them in situations where they're pushed.
On if this is their biggest conference test so far: I think so, but I thought Kansas was when we went there too and we were able to pull that out in four games. I think Kansas is very, very physical and has some opportunities, but Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Oklahoma are some road tests that we will have to face.
On how the team has responded to adversity: They have been more relaxed. I thought Texas Tech played very, very well the other night and we are just more consistent and less erratic. I think they are feeling more comfortable with the system. There were two games where we were tied at 17-all and we were able to get some separation. That shows me that we can put it into second gear and it was nice to see.
Sophomore MB Chiaka Ogbogu:
On having a break since the last match: A break is always nice. We had last Friday and Saturday off, so it was good to just be able to relax, get caught up on schoolwork and anything else we have going on.
On if it's hard to refocus after the break: We definitely make it a point to bring volleyball back into focus. I think we are so eager for it that it doesn't matter if we have a break.
On the road test: I definitely think they will have a good crowd—they always have a really wild student section. They're just coming off a sweep of TCU, so I'm sure they'll be excited to play. But we'll be psyched too—we get to wear our black jerseys, so that's a plus, and K-State is a great place to play.
On taking a leadership role this year: I think the fact that we are more balanced this year gives everyone a sort of leadership role. Jerritt was talking the other day about how anyone can step up, so it makes everyone want to be a leader on this team.
