Softball cruises to 8-0 win over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi

Mandy Ogle blasts career-high 5th home run; Three pitchers combine for the shutout
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Softball cruised to an 8-0 run-ruled win over the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Islanders in just one hour and 22 minutes on Wednesday night at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
Freshman pitcher Tiarra Davis picked up her second-straight win to improve to 9-7 on the season. The southpaw struck out four Islanders in three innings.
UT improved to 20-15 on the season and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi dropped to 7-24.
Junior Gabby Smith and freshman Lauren Slatten pitched an inning apiece to join Davis for the combined two-hit shutout. The three-pitcher unit struck out five in Texas' fourth shutout of the season.
Senior Mandy Ogle highlighted an 11-hit offensive output with a third-inning two-run home run that gave Texas a 6-0 lead. The catcher blasted a home run for the second consecutive game to give her a career-best five long balls on the season.
Texas got on the board early and often, notching three runs in the first inning. Senior Brejae Washington led off with a bunt single and stole her 23rd base of the season. Washington reached base all three times on the night, going 2-for-2 with a walk and two more stolen bases, giving her a season-high three on the night.
Sophomore Lindsey Stephens added to her team-leading RBI total with a double to right field, scoring Washington.
Washington and Stephens extended their on-base streaks, now at 26 and 36-straight games, respectively.
Senior Taylor Thom drew a walk and Davis batted in Texas' second run – an RBI-single to center to score Stephens. With runners on the corners, sophomore Holly Kern laced a single to center, plating Thom to give the Longhorns the 3-0 lead headed to the second.
The Longhorns added five runs in the third to grab a commanding 8-0 edge. Thom led off with a single and stole second. Davis notched her second RBI of the game with a double in the left-center field gap. After a Kern groundout, Ogle blasted a home run over the left-field wall to extend the margin to 6-0.
Freshman Devon Tunning singled to center and scored Texas' seventh run when sophomore Stephanie Ceo hit a double off the left-field wall. Washington picked up her second infield-single of the game, batting in Ceo to put Texas up 8-0 after three innings.
Texas will have a week off from action until it resumes its homestand next Wednesday against Texas State. The game will be broadcasted on Longhorn Network at 7 p.m. CT.
