Base Knocks:
- Texas' stunning 13-12 comeback win over Houston on Wed., April 1, truly marked a first in the history of the program. It is believed that by overturning a seven-run (10-3) deficit, UT registered the largest comeback to win a game in program history. The contest also marked the first time the Longhorns played in a game where both teams' offenses reached double figures on the scoreboard. The 25 combined runs between the two squads tied for the second most in a single game in Texas history (W, 19-6, Iowa State, April 11, 2014), trailing only the 26 total runs from a 19-7 win over Texas State on April 2, 2014. The three highest combined run totals between two teams in a single game have come in the last two UT seasons.
- The Longhorns enter Friday's match-up at Texas State riding a six-game winning streak, marking the longest such skein of the 2015 campaign.
- Following the three-game sweep of then-No. 22 Kansas, UT moved back into the rankings as the Longhorns entered the March 31st edition of the USA Today/NFCA poll at No. 25. The occurrence marked Texas' first ranking since being listed at No. 25 in the NFCA's Feb. 24th release.
- Texas and Texas State have met 42 times with the Longhorns leading the all-time series by a commanding 33-9 total entering Friday. UT has won the last 10 meetings, is 12-2 on the road and 20-6 at home. Texas' last loss to TSU was back on March 24, 2010, in San Marcos, Texas, 9-7.
- UT hasn't shied away from playing some of the best teams in the nation in 2015 and has had a lot of success in those contests. Texas now owns a 6-3 mark against ranked squads this year with victories over No. 16 Arizona State, No. 8/7 Georgia, No. 12 UCLA and No. 22 Kansas (three wins). That tough schedule has helped lead to a No. 27 ranking in the most recent release of the NCAA's Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), a tool used to select and seed teams for the NCAA Tournament Field of 64. Texas can boast of six wins over top 26-rated RPI squads, Arizona State (10), UCLA (11), Kansas (13-three wins) and Georgia (26) and seven over the top 50 (Northwestern-31).
- The Longhorns seem comfortable playing away from the friendly confines of McCombs Field, boasting an 8-1 mark in true away games in 2015. Included in that mark are a victory at No. 16 Arizona State, three-game road sweeps of Arkansas and No. 22 Kansas and a stunning 13-12 comeback win at Houston. The only true road match-up that UT has dropped this season was an 8-3 decision at North Carolina (March 6). Texas has out-hit the opposition as a team during road contests, .358 to .252, and has won seven in a row, marking the fifth-longest road winning streak in program history.
- Juniors Holly Kern and Lindsey Stephens have been especially impressive at the plate during Texas' nine road tilts in 2015. Kern is at a remarkable .536 (15-for-28) with three HR's and 14 RBIs, while Stephens sits at .462 with eight extra-base hits, including five HR's, and 16 RBIs. Junior Stephanie Ceo (.500 road mark - 13-for-26) and sophomores Stephanie Wong (.438, three doubles, triple, HR), Devon Tunning (.345, three doubles, 11 walks) and Kelli Hanzel (.344, three doubles, six RBIs) also boast impressive road numbers through UT's first nine away match-ups of the season.
- After dealing with some error issues defensively during the early portion of the 2015 campaign as a result of an unsettled infield line-up, things have improved significantly for the Longhorns since suffering through a three-miscue game against Lamar on Feb. 28 (three errors). Over the last 15 contests, Texas has committed nine total errors for a solid .977 fielding percentage while going mistake-free in eight of those match-ups. That's certainly had an influence on UT's solid 13-2 record over those last 15 games.
- Sophomore left fielder Stephanie Wong has proven an incredibly tough out at the plate over Texas' last 12 games, hitting a blistering .500 over that stretch (20-for-40) with a recent career-long seven-game hitting streak, a .545 on-base percentage, four walks, four doubles, a triple, a HR and eight RBIs. She's also currently reached base safely in a career-best 16 straight games.
- After hitting just .184 over UT's first 18 contests, junior second baseman Stephanie Ceo wasn't penciled into the line-up on March 1st against Dartmouth, marking her only missed game of the season. She has responded since then by hitting an impressive .455 (15-for-33) with nine runs scored, a triple, three walks, three RBIs and a .526 on-base percentage while making just one error at second base.
