USTFCCCA Announcement/Full Teams
AUSTIN, Texas – With the collegiate track and field season complete, the USTFCCCA announced its 2015 All-America teams on Monday. The Texas men's and women's teams combined for a total of 30 honorees, including 12 first team members for the women and seven for the men.
Junior Morolake Akinosun highlighted the group as she was one of only two athletes in the nation to earn first team All-America in four different events. Akinosun finished second in the 100 meters in one of the most exciting finishes of the NCAA Championships. She broke the school record in the 200 meters to finish fifth and ran a leg on both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays that finished fourth and eighth, respectively.
The honors for Akinosun brings her total to 13 All-America selections in her two years at Texas. She also earned two All-America certificates her freshman year at Illinois.
Also receiving multiple All-America honors for the women this year was Kendall Baisden, Melissa Gonzalez, Morgan Snow and Ashley Spencer.
Baisden finished runner-up in the 400 meters to take first team honors. She also received first team honors as a member of the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
Both of Spencer's All-America certificates were first team honors, finishing seventh in the 400 meters and running the anchor leg of the 4x400. Spencer ends her career with a total of 13 All-America team certificates (11 first team, 2 second) combined with her time at Texas and Illinois.
Gonzalez ran the third leg of the 4x400 relay to receive first team status for the first time in her career. The junior also earned second team for finishing 13th in the 400 meter hurdles.
Snow ran to opening leg of the 4x100 relay team to garner her first team honor. She also finished 11th in the 100 meter hurdles to be named to the first team. Snow also ends her career as a highly decorated student-athlete. She is a 12-time All-American during her four years at Texas (9 first team, 3 second team).
Freshman Shania Collins grabbed the other first team spot for the women as a member of the 4x100 meter relay squad.
Hurdlers Mobolaji Adeokun and Ariel Jones each received second team honors. Adeokun took 16th in the 100 meter hurdles and Jones was 15th in the 400 meter hurdles.
Sophomore transfer Sandie Raines closed her first year as a Longhorn with a pair of All-America honors. She finished 12th in the 5,000 meters to earn second team status. She adds that to her first team recognition during indoor season this year.
Senior Ryan Crouser led the men with two first team honors as he took fifth place in both the shot put and discus.
Five other individuals earned first team status.
Senior Craig Lutz closed his career as an All-American in the 10,000 meters. He also earned first team stats his sophomore year and garnered All-America twice during cross country in his career.
Senoj-Jay Givans finished fourth in the 100 meters to be named an outdoor All-American for the first time of his career. He also received second team stats this year in the 200 and the 4x100 meter relay.
Joining Givans as two-time All-American this year was Zack Bilderback. He finished sixth in the 400 and also ran on the 4x100 meter relay to get a first team and second team honor.
Spencer Dunkerley-Offor finished sixth in the 110 meter hurdles to make the first team and earn the first All-America certificate of his career.
Sophomore Wolf Mahler was the last athlete to qualify for the meet in the decathlon and he took advantage of the opportunity by finishing in seventh and earning first team status as an All-American. It is the second first team All-America honor for him this year also being recognized during the indoor season.
Clint Harris ended his career at Texas as an All-American. He finished 13th in the discus to receive second team honors and make an All-America team for the first time in his career.
Twins Carlton and Charles Anumnu joined Bilderback and Givans on the 4x100 meter relay to receive the first All-America certificate of their careers as members of the second team.
Freshman Caitland Smith received honorable mention for the 200 meters.
The USTFCCCA Outdoor Track & Field All-America Teams are determined by finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Student-athletes who finish in the top eight of an individual event or run on a relay that does all receive first team status. For student-athletes placing from ninth down to 16th, they receive second team honors. Any student-athlete placing 17th to 24th receive honorable mention.
