No. 3 Volleyball tops UTSA, 3-0

Senior Chloe Collins posted her second double-double of the day.
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Chloe Collins led in assists and digs to lead No. 3 Texas Volleyball (3-1) past UTSA (3-1), 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-21) in its second match of the day at the American Campus Classic on Thursday.
Collins posted 28 assists and 15 digs, following a performance of 43 assists and 11 digs earlier in the day versus Lipscomb.
She also added two kills, two aces and one block.
Freshman Micaya White and senior Paulina Prieto Cerame led the Longhorns with double-digit kills, recording 13 and 10, respectively.
White's 13 kills came on 28 swings for a .393 hitting percentage, while Prieto Cerame hit .318.
Sophomore Morgan Johnson posted a team-high seven blocks, White added four and freshman Orie Agbaji posted three.
As a team, Texas hit .280 and held UTSA to .198.
Texas and UTSA traded points in the first set until Texas went on a 4-0 run at 7-7 behind three kills from Prieto Cerame to take an 11-7 lead. The Longhorns stayed ahead until the Roadrunners chipped away and tied it at 17. From there, UTSA stayed close, tying the score five more times, but Texas came out on top, 27-25.
In the second set, the Longhorns created some separation early after Johnson came up with two big blocks to follow kills from White and Nwanebu. Aces from Johnson and Collins gave Texas an early 10-6 lead. The Roadrunners tried to scratch their way back in, but the Longhorns kept the lead and extended it to 17-12 with kills from Nwanebu, White, Johnson and Agbaji. UTSA pulled to within one point five different times in the last 10 points, but kills from Prieto Cerame and Nwanebu gave Texas set two, 25-23.
Neither team led by more than three points in the beginning of the third set, with four ties in the first 20 points. At 9-9, the Longhorns went on a 4-1 run behind kills from White to create some breathing room, but the Roadrunners stayed close and tied the score once again at 14 and took their first lead of the set at 16-15. Texas then executed a 4-0 run to take a 19-16 lead and did not let up to take the set, 25-21.
UTSA's Dajana Boskovic led UTSA with 16 kills and six digs.
Texas will face Army at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 in match three of the American Campus Classic.

On takeaways from the day: This time of year, it's about trying to find your rhythm. It's not always smooth and we have a lot to work on, but tonight we showed some grit and as the day went on, we improved. We had some good performances against some quality teams.
