No. 11 Women's Golf in fourth place following opening day of Battle at the Beach

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The No. 11 Texas women's golf team fired a field-best 19 birdies on Friday and currently stands in fourth place following an opening round two-over-par 286 at the Battle at the Beach, contested at Club Campestre San Jose Golf Club.
Each of the six Texas golfers competing in the tournament field on Friday placed among the top-30 in the individual standings following the opening round. The Longhorns are five strokes back of the team lead, held by Oklahoma at three under par. No. 1 UCLA is in second place at two under par, while Houston is in third place at one under par.
Senior Sophia Schubert headlined the day for the Longhorns and currently stands in a tie for eighth place overall. Schubert, who is coming off a win at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, fired a one-under-par 70 on Friday and led all individuals with a field-best 15 pars on the day.
Freshman Kaitlyn Papp recorded an even-par 71 that puts her in a tie for 17th place. Her five birdies on the day made her one of only eight golfers in the field on Friday to post five or more birdies in the opening round. Papp was the best among all golfers on par-three holes with an average score of 2.60 on par threes.
Sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker, one of only two golfers on the opening 18 holes to record an eagle, is tied for 20th with a one-over-par 72.
Sophomore Emilee Hoffman and freshman Agathe Laisne each posted two-over-par totals of 73 to position themselves in a tie for 30th place overall. Laisne also totaled five birdies on the day.
Sophomore Maren Cipolla, competing as an individual, recorded a tie for her second-best collegiate round with a two-over-par 73. She currently is in a tie for 30th place overall and had the best round of any golfer competing as an individual on Friday.
