The Longhorns pumped out 15 hits and 15 runs in their second straight shutout.
AUSTIN, Texas—Scoring its most runs at UFCU Disch-Falk Field since February 20, 2011, Texas Baseball (9-6) cruised to a 15-0 seven-inning win over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Wednesday night in Austin.
In the first, Tate Shaw, making his first career start, led off with a double to left for his first career hit. Freshman David Hamilton followed with an RBI single to right-center to make it 1-0 before an Austin Todd double—his first of three hits on the night—plated Hamilton.
Later in the inning, Bret Boswell doubled and Todd came around to score on a wild pitch. Fellow freshman Trace Bucey then lifted a sac fly and the Longhorns led 4-0 after the first.
It was in the second inning, however, that Texas broke it open. With one out, Shaw and Hamilton reached on a hit by pitch and a walk, respectively, before Kacy Clemens doubled to left to make it 5-0. Todd then singled up the middle to score two and put the Longhorns out to a 7-0 advantage. Boswell continued to rake and his RBI single pushed the lead to 8-0. After a groundout, Bucey singled through the left side to make it 9-0 and set the table for Patrick Mathis. With two on and two out, Mathis crushed the first pitch he saw over the right field wall to put the Longhorns out to a commanding 12-0 lead after two innings of play.
On the hill, Nick Kennedy (2-0) was dominant. The left-handed struck out six over four one-hit innings of work to earn the win in the seven-inning affair. He did not allow a walk in the game.
Behind Kennedy, Jon Malmin, Beau O'Hara and Chase Shugart contributed a scoreless inning each to preserve the Longhorns' second shutout in as many games.
Other notable offense came with freshman Andrés Sosa's first career hit and RBI singles from Ryan Reynolds, Hamilton and Clemens.
As a group, freshmen Longhorns went 7-for-15 with six runs scored and eight RBI in the game. In his last three games, Todd is now 7-for-9 with three walks, three doubles, a triple, six runs scored and six RBI.
The Longhorns host UCLA this weekend in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
