Longhorns Greta Isabella Voelker and Kaitlyn Papp finish among the top-20.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A pair of top-20 finishes from sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker and freshman Kaitlyn Papp led the No. 11 Texas women's golf team at the Dick McGuire Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the Championship Course at UNM. The Longhorns finished in 10th place with a three-round total of 880 (295-292-293).
Voelker, the 2017 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year, carded a two-over par 218 (75-71-72) to post her 10th career top-20 individual finish in 14 career events with an 18th-place showing. Papp, an Austin, Texas, native who was playing in her first career collegiate event, finished tied for 20th with a three-over-par 219 (70-76-73).
Sophomore Emilee Hoffman, the 2017 Big 12 Conference individual runner-up, finished inside the top-25 with a four-over par 220 (75-72-73). Junior Maddie Luitwieler totaled a 10-over-par 226 (76-76-75), while sophomore Maren Cipolla tallied a 19-over-par 235 (76-73-86).
The Longhorns tied for third among all teams with most pars in the tournament with 181. Voelker was one of just nine players in the event to record an eagle.
No. 24 Oklahoma State won the event with a one-under-par total of 863 (291-284-288). Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan and Stanford's Andrea Lee tied for individual medalist honors with eight-under-par totals of 208.
Texas returns to action Sept. 23-25, when it travels to Norman, Okla., to participate in the Schooner Fall Classic.
TEXAS QUOTES
Texas Associate Head Coach Kate Golden
"We had some solid performances this week in New Mexico, including a couple of top-20 finishes. As the season goes on, we'll get it dialed in. The team will get stronger and stronger as the year goes on."
On sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker …
"Greta was our low finisher this week with a two-over 218. It's a solid start for her, shooting 71 and 72 in the final two rounds. She did some great things last year, which earned her Big 12 Freshman of the Year. We look forward to seeing her game develop this season."
On freshman Kaitlyn Papp …
"Kaitlyn went to work this week with a three-over 219. It was the first tournament of her collegiate career and she played her way to a top-20 finish, especially her two-under 70 with no bogeys in the first round. She has had a busy first few weeks getting acclimated to UT. It's a solid start for her and we look forward to seeing her settle in to our team routine."
On sophomore Emilee Hoffman …
"Emilee played her way to a top-25 finish, which is a good start. She had a tough finish in her final round (73) but in all, played a lot of good golf this week (220, +4). We look forward to seeing what she can do in the future."
On junior Maddie Luitwieler …
"Maddie has been going through a big swing change and has adjusted really well. She just needs more tournament reps. We're happy with her showing and efforts this week (226, +10)."
On sophomore Maren Cipolla …
"We're really proud of Cipolla's performance this week, especially her second-round 73 (+1). She is coming back from an injury last year. It was the first time on the road for her and she had a great attitude. We couldn't be more pleased with her performance."
Sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker
On her first top-20 performance of the season …
"My driving this week felt really good. I was really confident off the tee. I felt like I could have performed better but more importantly, I have a better understanding of the areas I need to improve on moving forward."
