AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas women's golf team travels to Eden Prairie, Minn., this Sunday through Tuesday to participate in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, which features 12 of the top NCAA Division I programs in the country. This is the fourth-annual edition of the 54-hole stroke-play event.
The event at the par-72, 6,288-yard course will begin for the Longhorns at 9:50 a.m. CT on Sunday. Teams will play 18 holes per day. Live scoring will be available through GolfStat here.
The impressive tournament field includes No. 1 Arkansas, No. 5 Southern California, No. 11 South Carolina, No. 13 Furman, No. 16 Stanford and No. 18 Florida State, along with Baylor, Georgia, Miami, Minnesota and UCLA. The Longhorns are one of six programs participating in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate for the first time. Additionally, the top-four finishers from the 2016 event – Southern California, Arkansas, UCLA and Georgia – are returning this year.
At the top of the Texas lineup are a pair of golfers who set school records in their last 18 holes, as freshman Kaitlyn Papp and sophomore Emilee Hoffman each carded seven-under-par scores of 64 in the final round of the Schooner Fall Classic on Monday. Sophomore Greta Isabella Voelker who led the Longhorns at the Dick McGuire Invitational is third in the UT lineup. Competing for the first time this season for the Longhorns after participating in the Evian Championship, one of five LPGA majors, are senior Sophia Schubert (WAGR #30) and freshman Agathe Laisne (WAGR #36). In Schubert and Laisne, Texas adds to its lineup the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Champion and the 2017 European Ladies Champion, respectively.
The Longhorns are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic this past week in Norman, Okla. Texas completed the tournament with the second-best 54-hole total in program history at 851. The Longhorns' final round of 274 on the par-71 course was also the best 18-hole team total in program history.
The event will be contested at Olympic Hills Golf Club, which underwent an extensive renovation over the past two years and included reshaping greens, widening fairways, building new tees and fairway bunkers, and overseeing a state-of-the-art irrigation system.
Complete results and a recap of each day of competition at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate will be available at TexasSports.com.
