AUSTIN, Texas – After a pair of weather-related postponements, the Texas softball team is finally getting the opportunity to return to its scheduled fall slate on Wednesday by hosting a doubleheader at Red & Charline McCombs Field against Galveston College and Temple College at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. CT, respectively.
Admission is free to all fans, while spectator parking will also be available for free in Lot 115 only. All other lots, including the East Campus Garage, will require a University of Texas parking permit. There will be no TV coverage of either contest.
Texas is a perfect 4-0 during the 2018 fall season with wins over McLennan Community College, LSU, Weatherford College and St. Edward's.
In its most recent action, the current squad knocked off a group of standout Longhorns alumni this past Sunday, 9-7. Prior to that, UT swept a pair of contests from Weatherford College (8-0) and St. Edward's (9-0) back on Oct. 27.
Four Longhorns pitchers combined on 14 scoreless frames of work during that doubleheader sweep while allowing just seven total hits. Sophomores Chloe Romero (4 IP, three hits) and Ariana Adams (3 IP, no hits) combined to blank Weatherford College, while senior Brooke Bolinger (4 IP, one hit) and freshman Shea O'Leary (3 IP, three hits) teamed up to shutout St. Edward's.
At the plate, Texas' offense banged out 18 total hits over the doubleheader, highlighted by a combined four-hit, two-RBI afternoon from All-American sophomore second baseman Janae Jefferson. Redshirt junior outfielder Reagan Hathaway knocked in four total runs, junior catcher Taylor Ellsworth managed three hits including a two-bagger, junior transfer infielder Macy Smith registered a pair of hits, a double and two RBIs, junior shortstop Kaitlyn Slack knocked in two runs and senior outfielder Bekah Alcozer doubled in a tally.
UT is returning nine players from last season that earned time in at least 50 games (eight of those started at least 38 match-ups) and 13 total letter winners that combined to total 84% of the runs, 81% of the hits, 71% of the doubles, 80% of the HR's, 77% of the RBIs, 86% of the walks, 92% of the stolen bases and 42% of the team's pitching victories and strikeouts.
The Longhorns have also recently signed standout Oregon transfers Miranda Elish (NFCA All-American pitcher) and Lauren Burke (Pac-12 All-Freshman utility) for the upcoming 2019 campaign.
