No. 6 Women's Golf advances to match play semifinals at SDSU March Mayhem

The Longhorns defeated San Diego State, 3.5-1.5 on Monday.
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The No. 6 Texas women's golf team finished second in stroke play and defeated San Diego State, 3.5-1.5, on Monday in the first round of match play to advance to the match play semifinals of March Mayhem, contested at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
The Longhorns, who fired a nine-over-par 297 in stroke play, and got victories from Emilee Hoffman, Kaitlyn Papp and Greta Isabella Voelker in match play, advance to face third-seeded Iowa State – which defeated sixth-seeded Colorado on Monday - in the match play semifinals on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT. Texas is 0-1 this season against Iowa State, as the two squads met at the Dick McGuire Invitational to open the 2017-18 campaign.
Papp, who has earned two individual victories in her last three events, earned a commanding win against San Diego State's Haleigh Krause, 6 and 5. Hoffman defeated San Diego State's Gioia Carpinelli, 5 and 3, while Voelker edged Milagros Chaves, 2 and 1.
Junior Maddie Luitwieler overcame a deficit to tie SDSU's No. 1 golfer Georgia Lacey, while freshman Agathe Laisne lost to SDSU's Sarah Kjellker, 3 and 1.
In stroke play, Papp recorded an even-par 72 to pace the Longhorns. It marked her team-leading 14th round at par or better. Laisne recorded a one-over-par 73, while Luitwieler charted a two-over-par 74. Voelker totaled a six-over-par 78, while Hoffman had a seven-over-par 79.
