Chase Shugart went seven scoreless and Kody Clemens hit his team-high ninth homer of the year.
AUSTIN, Texas—On a cold day at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, starter Chase Shugart went seven scoreless and Kody Clemens provided the offense with his ninth homer as Texas Baseball (21-12, 8-3 Big 12) clinched the series win with a 2-0 shutout of Baylor on Saturday.
In the first inning, Clemens took a 1-2 offering from lefthander Cody Bradford over the right field fence to put Texas ahead, 1-0.
That would be all the offense that Longhorns pitching would need thanks to seven shutout innings from Shugart (3-2), a scoreless eighth from Kam Fields, and Andy McGuire's fourth save of the season.
Shugart battled all afternoon en route to a career-high seven innings and 120 pitches. The Bridge City native struck out just one but allowed only five hits and five walks to keep the Baylor offense at bay.
Texas added another run in the third after DJ Petrinsky doubled and came around to score on a Bears throwing error. Clemens finished with two hits on the day while Masen Hibbeler, Zach Zubia, Jake McKenzie, and Petrinsky added one apiece.
The Longhorns and Bears return to action tomorrow afternoon in a 1 p.m. game at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
