MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The Longhorns defense intercepted four passes that led to a total of 21 points as No. 11/12 University of Texas (4-1, 2-0) beat West Virginia (3-2, 1-1) 42-31 on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium. D'Shawn Jamison picked off two passes and Ayodele Adeoye and B.J. Foster each had an interception.
Key Statistics
- Sam Ehlinger accounted for four total touchdowns (2 rush/2 pass) for the fourth time this season and the eighth time in his career.
- Roschon Johnson recorded the first 100-yard game of his career, as he finished with career highs in carries (21) and rushing yards (121).
- The Longhorns' four interceptions marked the first time that UT has picked off four passes in a game since the Horns did so at Kansas on Sept. 27, 2014 (64 games).
- West Virginia opened the game with a four-play scoring drive, capped off by a 44-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead. It marks the second-straight game that the Longhorns' opponent has scored first.
- After a missed field goal by the Longhorns, Texas used a big defensive play on the first career interception by Ayodele Adeoye to set up the offense. Two plays after the interception, Ehlinger threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Malcolm Epps.
- The Mountaineers retook the lead at the start of the second quarter, driving 60 yards in just 1:13 to go up 14-7.
- Texas knotted the game back up, 14-14, with Ehlinger hitting John Burt for a 13-yard touchdown. It was Burt's first TD of the season, and the fifth of his career.
- The Longhorns then took their first lead of the game on a 13-yard run by Ehlinger with 2:40 left in the first half.
- D'Shawn Jamison recorded his first career interception early in the third quarter.
- WVU kicked a field goal in the third quarter to trim the Texas lead to 21-17.
- B.J. Foster picked off his first pass of the season and the second of his career to setup a Texas touchdown. Devin Duvernay finished off the drive with his first career rushing touchdown to make the Longhorns lead 28-17.
- Jamison intercepted his second pass, and the fourth of the game for the Texas defense, in the fourth quarter to setup another score. The Longhorns finished the drive with a clever play that saw offensive lineman Sam Cosmi run in a 12-yard touchdown.
- Ehlinger finished off the Mountaineers with a 23-yard touchdown run to make the score 42-24. WVU scored one more time in the final seconds to make the score 42-31.
