The Longhorns have recorded 15 victories over teams currently ranked in the RPI Top 100
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas softball (25-6) has debuted at No. 5 overall, while boasting the eighth-toughest schedule in the nation, in Monday's initial release of the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) by the NCAA.
The RPI is a quantifying tool utilized by the NCAA to rank sports teams combining a squad's wins and losses as well as its strength of schedule.
The Longhorns currently possess 15 victories over teams ranked in the RPI Top 100, including eight wins over RPI Top 25 foes in No. 7 Kentucky, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 12 Minnesota, No. 15 Ole Miss (two wins), No. 19 Boise State and No. 25 Tulsa (two wins). UT also owns RPI Top 50 triumphs over No. 32 Arizona State and No. 45 Wisconsin.
The Burnt Orange & White have played 15 of their 31 contests against teams that were either ranked or receiving votes in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) or ESPN.com/USA Softball polls at time of playing, while five of those tilts have been against top 15-rated foes.
Texas softball returns to action on Monday evening (March 18) by battling Lipscomb on the road at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT with a live broadcast set for ESPN+.
