Longhorn duo earn weekly honors.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 13 Texas Baseball's Eric Kennedy earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors, while Longhorn right-hander Bryce Elder was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
This is the second weekly honor this season for both players. Elder was named the pitcher of the week following his opening day start and Kennedy claimed newcomer of the week following the sweep of No. 2 LSU.
Kennedy batted .474/.583/.579 in five games against No. 11 Arkansas and No. 22 TCU last week. The outfielder registered a pair of four-hit games, including a 4-for-5 evening with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored against TCU on Saturday. On Sunday, he had an incredible four infield hits to produce another 4-for-5 game.
Elder pitched yet another gem, allowing just one run on five hits in a career high-tying eight innings pitched against No. 22 TCU. The sophomore struck out seven batters and forced a pair of double plays in the contest. He struck out the side in the second inning.
Texas travels to San Antonio for a midweek contest with Incarnate Word Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Nelson Wolff Stadium, the home of the Triple-A San Antonio Missions. The Longhorns then return to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for a weekend series against Xavier.
