No. 6 Women’s Tennis sweeps Baylor, 7-0

The Longhorns claim doubles point and win all contested singles matches in straight sets.
WACO, Texas — The No. 6 University of Texas women's tennis team posted a 7-0 sweep at Baylor (7-19, 1-6 Big 12) on Wednesday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center. The Longhorns, who won their eighth-straight dual match, won the doubles point and all five contested singles matches in straight sets.
Texas (14-3, 7-0 Big 12) grabbed an early 1-0 lead by easily claiming the doubles point. UT's sophomore tandem of Fernanda Labraña and Bojana Markovic registered a 6-0 win against Dominika Sujova and Alexandra Ahearn at third doubles.
The No. 55-ranked tandem of junior twin sisters Anna and Bianca Turati clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory against Angie Shakhriachuk and Katelyn Parker at first doubles. The Turati twins won their seventh-straight doubles match and improved to 11-2 in dual-match doubles play this spring, including a perfect 6-0 mark in Big 12 play. Junior Petra Granic and freshman Tijana Spasojevic led Paula Baranano and Stephanie Adames by a 4-2 score at second doubles when the point was clinched.
The Longhorns increased their lead to 2-0, when senior Katie Poluta earned a walkover at sixth singles. Labraña registered a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory against Ahearn at fifth singles, before No. 123 Markovic clinched the dual-match win with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Parker at fourth singles.
With the dual match decided, No. 41 Anna Turati recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win against Sujova at second singles. Turati claimed her 13th-consecutive singles victory and improved to 14-2 in dual-match singles action this spring, including a 7-0 mark in Big 12 play.
No. 55 Granic added a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Adames at third singles. Granic improved to 10-1 in dual-match singles play this spring, including a 6-1 record in Big 12 play. No. 29 Bianca Turati closed out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Baranano at first singles. With the second set tied at 5-5, Turati broke Baranano and then rallied from down 0-30 to hold serve in the final game on a deuce point.
Texas continues Big 12 Conference play when it travels to Urbandale, Iowa to face Iowa State on Friday, April 12. First serve for the Texas-Iowa State match is set for 11 a.m. Central.
