AUSTIN, Texas – Michael McCann hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, but No. 12 Texas Baseball was unable to complete the comeback in a 9-6 loss to No. 9 Texas A&M Tuesday at Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (20-12, 3-3 Big 12) trailed 7-1 before cutting the Aggies lead all the way to 7-6 in the eighth inning. Texas A&M gave itself some breathing room with two runs in the top of the ninth and held on for the win.

McCann finished the game 1-for-4 with three RBI and his first homer of the season. Austin Todd went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Texas scored the first run of the game, after Todd hit a two-out double in the first inning and scored on an RBI single by Ryan Reynolds.

Texas A&M had a quick answer, scoring four runs in the top of the second off of starter Owen Meaney. The Aggies used a pair of homers and an RBI single to center to go up 4-1.

The Aggies added one more run on three hits in the fourth inning off of reliever Matt Whelan to take a 5-1 lead.

Texas A&M plated two more runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead. Donny Diaz got the first two outs of the inning but a walk and a hit batter extended the frame. A two-out single to left drove in the first run of the inning and an error allowed the second run to come across.

Texas got a run back in the sixth after Eric Kennedy started the inning with a triple to deep center field and scored on a groundout.

McCann hit his three-run blast in the seventh to trim the Aggie lead to 7-5. The Longhorns made it a one-run game in the eighth inning after Todd doubled for the second time in the game and scored on an error.

The Aggies got a two-out two-run single in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
