FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Texas Track & Field teams won 10 events over two days at the second-annual National Relay Championships to secure strong showings with a pair of runner-up finishes in the team relays title races. Tripp Piperi, coming off last weekend when he became the second-best outdoor shot put performer in program history (68-11.25) at the Beach Invite, highlighted day two on Saturday for the Longhorns, winning the shot put with the 11th-best outdoor mark in school history (20.58m/67-6.25). On Friday, the Longhorns swept the men's and women's sprint medley relays with the men setting a meet record (3:15.00) in the process. The men also claimed the 4x1500m relay crown while the women finished second in that event. The University of Arkansas swept both team titles, narrowly holding off the UT men by just five points.
Last night at John McDonnell Field, the distance runners had impressive showings, sweeping both the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase. Meghan Lloyd, the school-record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, won the event and put down the 16th-best time in the event in program history while Alex Rogers won the same event just one week after breaking a 30-year school record in the 1500m. Charles Mills and Brendan Hebert finished 1-2 in the 1500m and Destiny Collins recorded a new PR (4:19.16) to get the win on the women's side.
Micaiah Harris picked up a win yesterday in the 100m with a new PR (10.29) while Jonathan Jones moved into the NCAA top-20 this year in the 400m and became the seventh-fastest outdoor performer (45.76) in the event in Longhorn history. Kynnedy Flannel finished second in the 100m (11.38) and third in the 200m (22.79) on the women's side and John Burt won the 110mH in a time of 13.70.
On Saturday, the Texas women's relays were able to lock down a second-place finish in the 400m relay with a time of 44.61 and two third-place finishes in the 1600m and 3200m relays. The men's top finishes on day two was third-place in the 3200m relay and fourth in 400m relay.

QUOTES
Head Coach Edrick Floreal
"This weekend was another good step as we continue to grow as a team. We had some bright spots and strong performances against high-level competition, especially with the three relay wins yesterday. These next two weeks will be crucial as we get ready for a conference run, but we're making progress and really looking forward to competing for the conference title."
Sophomore thrower Tripp Piperi:
"Today was a decent day with a solid series that was consistent. My throws felt smooth, but I finished under my PR which means I've got to work on some technical things so that I'm ready to improve at conference. As far as the win goes, I won by a meter and half, give or take. I normally try not to worry too much about placing at the non-championship meets. I just work on the technical side in those meets and focus on going for my PR. It was pretty cool getting the meet record so that's something to take away from today but other than that, I'm going to keep working and getting stronger. There's a lot more coming this season."
