No. 5 Men’s Golf in fifth place after day two at NCAA Championships

Chervony paced the Longhorns with a two-under-par 70 in Saturday’s second round.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The No. 5 Texas Men's Golf team posted a two-over-par 290 on Saturday to stand in fifth place after the second day of the NCAA Championships at Blessings Golf Club. Senior Steven Chervony paced the Longhorns with a two-under-par 70 in the second round.
The Longhorns have recorded a 36-hole total of 12-over-par 588 (298-290). Oklahoma State holds the team lead at 10-under-par 566 (290-276), while Stanford is second at two-over-par 578 (291-287). Texas A&M is third at seven-over-par 583 (296-287).
Freshman Parker Coody recorded an even-par 72 for the second consecutive day and is tied for ninth place in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of even-par 144 (72-72). Chervony is tied for 16th place with a two-round score of one-over-par 145 (75-70).
Oklahoma State's Austin Eckroat holds the individual lead at six-under-par 138 (69-69), Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State and Cal's Collin Morikawa are tied for second at five-under-par 139. Only 15 individuals in the 156-player field are even or below par through the first 36 holes.
The 2019 NCAA Championships continue with stroke play for all 30 teams on Sunday, May 26. The field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top nine individuals from non-advancing teams following Sunday's third round. The fourth and final round of stroke play is set for Monday, May 27, and the individual NCAA champion will be crowned following the completion of 72 holes of stroke play.
The top eight teams following Monday's final round of stroke play will advance to the NCAA Match Play Championships. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Tuesday, May 28, while the NCAA Championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28.
The Lineup
- Freshman Parker Coody is tied for ninth place at even-par 144 (72-72). Coody recorded four birdies during Saturday's second round (2, 6, 15 and 16). He has posted 16 rounds of par or better in 26 total rounds this season.
- Senior Steven Chervony is tied for 16th place at one-over-par 145 (75-70). Chervony carded three birdies in his second round (1, 5 and 14) against just one bogey.
- Freshman Cole Hammer is tied for 72nd place at seven-over-par 151 (75-76). Hammer tallied three birdies in his second round (2, 11 and 15).
- Freshman Pierceson Coody is tied for 89th place at nine-over-par 153 (81-72). Coody registered five birdies during his second round (1, 2, 5, 11 and 12).
- Junior Spencer Soosman also is tied for 89th place at nine-over-par 153 (76-77).
Up Next
The third round of the NCAA Championships will be played on Sunday, May 26 at Blessings Golf Club. The Longhorns will be paired with Auburn and Oklahoma, and tee times will begin at 7:12 a.m. CT from hole 10.
