No. 5 Men’s Golf advances to NCAA Match Play quarterfinals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The No. 5 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 15-over-par 303 on Monday afternoon to place in a tie for fourth after the final day of stroke play in the NCAA Championships at Blessings Golf Club. By virtue of its top-eight showing, the fifth-seed Longhorns move on to the NCAA Match Play quarterfinals and will face fourth-seed Oklahoma on Tuesday beginning at 7:50 a.m. Central.
UT has now advanced to NCAA Match Play in three of the last four and six of the last eight seasons (2012-13-15-16-18-19). Texas is the only Division I men's program to reach Match Play in at least six of the last eight years.
The Longhorns recorded a 72-hole total of 28-over-par 1180 (298-290-289-303). Oklahoma State earned the top seed in Match Play at 16-under-par 1136 (290-276-286-284). Vanderbilt placed second at 15-over-par 1167 (307-288-287-285), while Wake Forest finished third at 20-over-par 1172 (296-297-288-291).
Freshman Parker Coody paced the Longhorns with a one-over-par 73 on Monday and tied for 15th in the individual standings at four-over-par 292 (72-72-75-73). Oklahoma State's Matthew Wolff claimed NCAA medalist honors at 10-under-par 278 (73-66-70-69).
Other NCAA Match Play quarterfinal contests on Tuesday will feature No. 2 seed Vanderbilt against No. 7 seed Texas A&M (7 a.m. CT), No. 3 seed Wake Forest against No. 6 seed Stanford (7 a.m. CT) and No. 1 seed Oklahoma State against No. 8 seed SMU (7:50 a.m. CT). The four quarterfinal winners will meet in the Match Play semifinals on Tuesday beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT and 2:20 p.m. CT.
Golf Channel will provide live national coverage of Tuesday's quarterfinals from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Central and Tuesday's semifinals from 3-7 p.m. Central. The NCAA Championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28.
The Lineup
- Freshman Parker Coody posted a one-over-par 73 in Monday's fourth round and tied for 15th place at four-over-par 292 (72-72-75-73). He carded three birdies (2, 3 and 13) during Monday's round.
- Freshman Cole Hammer registered a five-over-par 77 in Monday's fourth round and tied for 38th place at 11-over-par 299 (75-76-71-77).
- Junior Spencer Soosman recorded a two-over-par 74 in Monday's fourth round and tied for 41st place at 12-over-par 300 (76-77-73-74). Soosman posted five birdies (2, 4, 8, 10 and 15) during Monday's round.
- Freshman Pierceson Coody fired a seven-over-par 79 in Monday's fourth round and tied for 47th place at 14-over-par 302 (81-72-70-79).
- Senior Steven Chervony posted an eight-over-par 80 in Monday's fourth round and tied for 47th place at 14-over-par 302 (75-70-77-80).
