Huston Street joins Baseball as student assistant

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball head coach David Pierce has announced that 13-year Major League Baseball veteran and former Longhorn great Huston Street will join the Longhorns staff as a student assistant.

"Huston Street has a passion for The University of Texas, especially Texas Baseball, and will be an asset for the program in many capacities during the 2020 season," Pierce said. "Obviously Huston has exhausted his eligibility but he is planning to return to campus to complete his degree and give back to the program that he helped win a National Championship. He loves competition, has so much to offer and his presence will be awesome for our players. The bottom line is he's a winner."

Street played 13 MLB seasons for the Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels. Selected with the 40th pick in the 2004 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics, Street quickly made his mark on the major league level by winning the 2005 AL Rookie of the Year award. He pitched in 668 major league games, amassing 324 career saves, and was a two-time All-Star.

A three-time All-American at Texas and the MVP of the 2002 College World Series, Street holds the Longhorn and College World Series records for career saves. He finished his Longhorn career with 41 saves and a 1.31 ERA, the second best in program history. He is the all-time College World Series leader in saves with five, and set the single-series record of four in 2002.

From 2009-11, Street and new Longhorn assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki were teammates with the Colorado Rockies.

Street is a member of the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor and the Omaha College Baseball Hall of Fame.
