Three Longhorns put down double-digit kills to lead Texas to victory.
AUSTIN, Texas - No.4 Texas defeated (RV) Northern Iowa, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19) to kick off the regular season on Friday evening in raucous Gregory Gym.
Senior Micaya White led all players with 18 kills and 13 digs, while freshman Skylar Fields added 15 kills, hitting .577, and two blocks.
Sophomore Logan Eggleston posted 15 kills and nine digs and freshman Molly Phillips recorded six kills, hitting .500 in her career debut.
Sophomore Jhenna Gabriel finished the match with 37 assists and 14 digs for her first career double-double. Gabriel guided the offense to a .319 hitting percentage.
Sophomore libero Sydney Peterson recorded 15 digs and eight assists, while senior defensive specialist Claire Hahn added five assists and 12 digs.
The Longhorns will have a quick turnaround before facing No.14 USC on Sunday, September 1 at 1 p.m.
