Cross Country preview: Arturo Barrios Invitational

The Longhorns open their 2020 season in College Station on Saturday.
AUSTIN, Texas– The Texas Cross Country programs are set to open their 2020 seasons at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station this Saturday. It will be the first of two meets on the calendar for both the men's and women's teams at UT, with the Big 12 Championships concluding their fall slate on Oct. 30.
Last year, the UT men placed 25th at the NCAA Championships – their best run at the national meet since 2013 – and placed third in the Big 12. Sam Worley became the first Longhorn in seven years to earn All-America honors on the Cross Country course with a 27th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
On the women's side, the Longhorns took second at the Big 12 Championships, their best finish since 2011. Led by a quartet of All-Big 12 honorees, the Texas women scored 54 points (4-5-6-15-24) to fall just two points shy of the conference title. At the NCAA Championships, Texas placed 30th as a team, its best run since 2012.
The 2020 Arturo Barrios Invitational will be held at the Watts Cross Country Course this Saturday, with the Men's 8K set to start at 9:30 a.m. CT, followed by the Women's 6K at 10:15 a.m.. The field will consist of schools from the Big 12 (Baylor, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech), SEC (Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M – hosts) and UT Arlington.
