The Longhorns are tied for second in Pool B after Friday’s action.
HOCKLEY, Texas – The Texas men's golf team split its two matchups on the first day of pool play at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament, which is being held at The Clubs at Houston Oaks this weekend. The Longhorns are tied for second in Pool B with three points after Friday's action.
Hunter Ostrom, a graduate transfer from Notre Dame, led the Longhorns in their second match of the day, picking up an impressive 5&4 victory over Kansas' Ben Sigel. Pierceson Coody (4&3) and Cole Hammer (3&2) were the next two Longhorns into the clubhouse, as they helped Texas get halfway to an afternoon sweep.
Following those three, Christoffer Bring clinched the match for Texas with a 3&2 victory over William Duquette. Mason Nome picked up a 2&1 win and Travis Vick closed out the match with a half-point against Zach Sokolosky.
In UT's first match of the day, the Longhorn were bested, 4-0-2, by Oklahoma State. Bring and Vick each picked up a half-point in their respective matchup.
The Longhorns return to action tomorrow morning when they take on Texas Tech in their final pool play matchup of the weekend. Texas, sitting on three points, will advance to Sunday's championship match if it defeats Texas Tech and Kansas either halves or beats Oklahoma State in Pool B's opposite matchup.
