THE BIG 12 CONFERENCE
• The Big 12 has been arguably the best golf conference in the country over the past decade, winning three national championships and posting four additional runner-up finishes. To begin the 2020-21 season, five of the league's teams are ranked in the top 25 nationally, including the Longhorns.
• Eight players in the conference are ranked in the top 40 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). Texas fields two of those high-ranked stars in Pierceson Coody (No. 9) and Cole Hammer (No. 20).
HASKINS AWARD CANDIDATES
• Texas placed three student-athletes on the 2020 Preseason Haskins Award Watch List, the most of any program in the country. The three – Pierceson Coody, Cole Hammer and Travis Vick – were all also preseason watch list honorees in 2019.
• Coody, a Plano, Texas native, posted four top-10 finishes in six starts last season, including a second-place finish at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta. He has shot 28 rounds at par-or-better in his two-year stint on the Forty Acres thus far, highlighted by 15 rounds in the 60s.
• Hammer, a Houston native, was the recipient of the 2019 Mark H. McCormack Medal, which is presented annually to the world's top-ranked amateur at the end of a respective season. The junior has won three times in his collegiate career to date and posted 30 rounds of par-or-better. He is coming off his second career start in the U.S. Open this past weekend.
• Vick, a Houston native, started six times for Texas last season as a true freshman, registering two top-10s and a runner-up finish at the East Lake Cup. He posted eight rounds of par or better last year, including three rounds in the 60s.
• The Fred Haskins Award, celebrating its 50th year, has been won previously by five Longhorns on seven occasions. That list of UT greats is made up by three-time winner Ben Crenshaw (1971-73), Bob Estes (1987), Justin Leonard (1994), Brad Elder (1997) and Beau Hossler (2016). The Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's and select golf media.
