No. 3 Women’s Tennis defeats No. 2 UCLA, 4-2

The Longhorns advance to face No. 1 North Carolina in the ITA National Indoors championship match on Sunday.
STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 3 University of Texas Women's Tennis team recorded a 4-2 win against No. 2 UCLA in the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday evening at the Greenwood Tennis Center. With the victory, the Longhorns (7-0) advance to face No. 1 North Carolina in the championship match of the prestigious tournament on Sunday, Feb. 7 at approximately 6:30 p.m. CT.
Texas grabbed a 1-0 advantage by claiming the doubles point. UCLA's duo of Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson earned a 6-2 win on court 3 against senior Marta Perez Mur and freshman Charlotte Chavatipon. The No. 48-ranked pair of Fernanda Labraña and Anna Turati jumped out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 6-3 victory on court 2 over Annette Goulak and Vivian Wolff. Labraña and Turati improved to 7-0 in dual-match doubles play this spring.
In the decisive match on court 1, UT's freshman duo of Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun faced off against the nation's top-ranked doubles tandem of Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart. Tied at 2-2, Collins and Sun broke the Bruins and then held serve to gain a 4-2 cushion. Serving at 5-4, Collins and Sun held serve to close out the 6-4 win and clinch the doubles point for the Longhorns.
Texas increased its advantage to 3-0 with a pair of impressive straight-set wins from freshman Peyton Stearns and Chavatipon to open singles play. No. 66-ranked Stearns won her eighth-consecutive singles match with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory on court 1 against No. 9-ranked Bolton.
No. 125-ranked Chavatipon followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court 4 over Wolff. Trailing 3-2 in the second set, Chavatipon won three consecutive games to gain a 5-3 lead and closed out the 6-4 set win to finish her match. Chavatipon ran her singles record to a perfect 10-0 this year, including a 7-0 mark in dual-match play.
UCLA responded with a pair of victories to trim the deficit to 3-2. No. 19-ranked Hart rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory on court 3 against No. 94 Sun, and No. 7-ranked Abbey Forbes defeated No. 5-ranked Turati by a score of 7-5, 6-1 on court 2.
Collins completed her spectacular evening with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) victory on court 6 against Goulak to clinch the dual-match win for the Longhorns. Trailing 5-3 in the opening set, Collins won the next four games to rally for a 7-5 set win. Later in the second-set tiebreaker, Goulak claimed the first point but Collins responded by winning the next seven points to seal the victory.
