No. 9 Baseball beats Oklahoma in extra innings on Hodo walk-off double

Douglas Hodo III drove in the game-winning run with an 11th-inning two-out double.
AUSTIN, Texas – Douglas Hodo III hit an 11th-inning two-out walk-off double to give No. 9 Texas Baseball a 4-3 win over Oklahoma at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Friday night.
Hodo finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, driving in Mitchell Daly for the first extra-inning win of the season for the Longhorns (16-6, 3-1). Cole Quintanilla picked up the win in relief after entering with one out in the top of the eleventh and striking out both batters he faced.
Oklahoma (12-9, 0-1) got on the board early, scoring a pair of runs on three hits before recording an out in the first inning.
The Longhorn bats came alive in the second inning, plating three runs in the frame to grab the lead. Zach Zubia led off with a home run, crushing the third pitch of the at-bat to deep left-center for his second home run of the season. Trey Faltine followed with a base hit to left and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cam Williams. Daly doubled down the left field line, scoring Faltine to even the score, with Hodo driving in Daly three pitches later on a base hit to left to give Texas a 3-2 lead.
Tanner Witt entered in the seventh and was light-out, striking out the side on 15 pitches, finishing the evening allowing no hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 1 2/3 innings of work.
The Sooners evened things up in the eighth, courtesy of a walk, throwing error and wild pitch that led to an unearned run in the eighth, tying the game at 3-3.
Aaron Nixon came out of the bullpen with two outs in the eighth, pitching 2 2/3 shutout innings before giving way to Quintanilla, who improved to 3-0 this season.
Daly reached in the bottom of the ninth on a four-pitch walk, scoring from first on Hodo's drive to center field.
Madden worked six innings on the night, allowing six hits, two walks and striking out six, including three swinging strikeouts to close out innings. Daly went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while also drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch.
In 216 meetings between the Longhorns and Sooners, tonight's game was the 11th to head to extra innings, with the Texas holding a 9-1-1 advantage.
The Longhorns and Sooners return to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for game two of the Red River Showdown tomorrow at 5 p.m.
