THE MATCHUP—Texas hosts Oklahoma in a three-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field this weekend, with the series getting underway on Friday. Since the 2016 season, the Longhorns and Sooners have split 14 games, including each winning a game in the Big 12 Tournament.
A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Following a 10-1 midweek win over UIW at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, the Longhorns are 15-3 over their last 18 games, including a 10-1 record at home. In the win over UIW, Texas used homers from Dylan Campbell and Peter Geib to put the game out of reach. Cole Quintanilla picked up the win in relief after starter Pete Hansen pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts. The Longhorns have won four-straight series, including winning two of three against Baylor in Waco last weekend to open Big 12 Conference play.
QUICKER THAN QUICK—Mike Antico leads the Big 12 Conference and is seventh nationally with 11 stolen bases. Eric Kennedy is right behind him, holding down the second spot in the conference with nine stolen bases, which ranks 17th in the nation. As a team, the Longhorns have swiped 33 bases, which leads the conference and ranks 12th nationally. Additionally Kennedy uses his speed regularly to get on base with 10 infield singles, including six bunt hits this season.
FLASHING THE LEATHER—Trey Faltine has been a human highlight reel this season, making the difficult look routine. The Longhorns shortstop leads the Big 12 with 60 assists and is tied for 11th with 10 double plays while sporting a .965 fielding percentage in 85 chances.
ALL YOU NEED IS PATIENCE—Mike Antico and Trey Faltine currently sit in the top-25 in the nation with 17 walks a piece, which is tied for fourth in the Big 12 Conference. Zach Zubia was drawn 13 base on balls to place 16th in the conference. The Longhorns have collectively drawn 104 walks, fifth-most in the conference and 13th in the NCAA.
HAMMER KEEPS HAMMERING—Cam Williams crushed his team-leading fourth home run at Baylor on Saturday and drove in a run in each game of the series. Williams has hit safely in 17 of 21 games this season and currently leads the team in doubles (8), total bases (40) and slugging-percentage (.548), while sitting second on the squad in hits (20) and RBI (16). Williams' eight doubles are second-most in the Big 12 and rank 15th nationally.
THE ACE—Ty Madden has been brilliant this season, twice earning Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, including following his 14-strikeout, complete game shutout outing on March 5 against Houston. That performance also garnered nods as the NCBWA and Perfect Game National Pitcher of the Week, one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of The Week and one of four nominees for the Golden Spikes Award Performance of the Week. Madden currently leads the Big 12 and ranks 9th nationally with 44 strikeouts this season. He also leads the conference in hits allowed per nine innings (3.78) and is tied for the lead in games started (5), while ranking second in WHIP (0.78), fifth in wins (3) and sixth in ERA (1.62).
