No. 9 Baseball falls in series finale to Oklahoma, 3-2

Texas has won three of the last four series against Oklahoma.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Texas Baseball dropped the series finale to Oklahoma, 3-2, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon. The Longhorns (17-7, 4-2) won their fifth-straight weekend series of the season.

Silas Ardoin and Mitchell Daly each collected two hits and drove in a run.

For the third-straight game, Oklahoma (12-11, 1-2) took an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the third to go up 2-0.

Texas cut into the lead in the fourth, scoring on a Daly base-hit to make it 2-1. A one-out single up the middle by Eric Kennedy and back-to-back walks to Ardoin and Mike Antico loaded the bases. With two outs, Daly smoked a ball through the right side to score Kennedy and get the Longhorns on the board.

The Longhorns played small ball in the eighth to tie the game, 2-2. Trey Faltine wore a pitch to the hip to open the eighth and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Douglas Hodo III. Kennedy walked and Ardoin was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again. An Antico infield single to third brought in Faltine to even the score.

Oklahoma regained the lead on a two-out infield single in the top of the ninth.

Kolby Kubichek pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three before giving way to Tanner Witt out of the bullpen. Witt allowed one hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Aaron Nixon surrendered a run in the ninth to pick up the loss and fall to 1-2 on the year.

Texas has won three of the last four series against Oklahoma.

Next up, Texas hits the road starting with a Tuesday evening matchup at Texas A&M. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
