No. 19 Baseball wins slugfest with Sam Houston

The Longhorns pounded out 15 runs on 16 hits to beat the Bearkats on Tuesday night.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 19 Texas Baseball outslugged Sam Houston, 15-9, on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns had season highs of 16 hits, five doubles and six stolen bases.
Pete Hansen started and pitched four solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits to pick up his first win of the season, working under a pitch count.
Sam Houston scored first on a pair of hits to start the game but Hansen did well to limit the damage, holding the Bearkats to just one run in the inning.
Texas immediately got the run back and more in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead. Mike Antico reached on fielder's choice groundout, stole second base, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch. Antico finished with three stolen bases and four runs scored.
The Longhorns then loaded the bases with two outs on a walk by Zach Zubia, single by Silas Ardoin and a walk by Trey Faltine. Ivan Melendez then grounded a single up the middle to drive in two runs and Cam Williams followed with an RBI double to right field.
Texas tacked on another run in the second inning on an RBI double by Zubia to drive in Antico and make the score 5-1. Zubia reached base five times in the game and finished 3-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored.
SHSU got a run on the board in the third on a pair of hits to cut the Texas lead to 5-2.
The Longhorns tacked on three more runs in the fourth after loading the bases with nobody out. A balk scored the first run of the inning and Zubia drove in two more with an RBI single. Two more Texas runs came across in the fifth on RBI singles by Douglas Hodo III and Eric Kennedy.
Sam Houston exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth to trim the Texas lead to 10-9. Tanner Witt came out of the bullpen to get out of the jam and finished with two innings pitched and one run allowed.
Mitchell Daly got one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI infield single to drive in Trey Faltine.
Texas scored four more runs on four hits in the seventh inning, extending the lead to 15-9. Zubia, Melendez and Petrinsky hit back-to-back-to-back doubles do drive in the runs.
Lucas Gordon pitched the final two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
