No. 3 Baseball completes sweep with 11-1 win over Abilene Christian

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Baseball defeated Abilene Christian in seven innings, 11-1, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game series sweep. Texas has won 13 consecutive games to improve to 30-8 overall.
Mike Antico led the Longhorn offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run, one walk and three RBI, scoring three runs and stealing bases. Zach Zubia and Ivan Melendez each had two hits, two RBI and a pair of walks on the afternoon.
The Texas bats were hot early, sending nine batters to the plate in the first inning and scoring four runs to take an early 4-0 lead. Antico led off the frame with an infield single and then stole second. Mitchell Daly laid down a bunt to sacrifice Antico to third, then Zubia walked to put runners at the corners. Melendez followed with a double to left-center to score Antico, then DJ Petrinsky singled to left to drive in Zubia. Douglas Hodo III singled to center to bring home Melendez and Eric Kennedy reached on a fielder's choice that scored Petrinsky.
In the second, Antico tripled to right-center to lead off the inning and scored on a Daly single to center. Daly stole second and was brought home on a Melendez triple into the gap in right-center to give Texas a 6-0 lead.
Abilene Christian (19-16) got on the board with a double and a base hit to cut the Texas lead to 6-1.
Texas added a run in the fourth to make it 7-1 with a Zubia solo home run over the wall in right field.
Cam Williams and Trey Faltine opened the fifth with back-to-back singles and Antico brought them home with a shot to right for his fifth home run of the year to put Texas up, 10-1.
The Longhorns tacked on one more run in the sixth to extend the lead to 11-1. Williams singled to lead off the inning and Antico drew a one-out walk. Zubia stepped in with two outs and drove a ball through the left side to score Williams.
Kolby Kubichek (5-2) pitched five solid innings to earn the win, allowing a run on five hits and two walks and striking out two. Aaron Gordon and Drew Shifflet each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Melendez had a hit in each game of the 10-game homestand is currently on a 13-game hitting streak.
The Longhorns are back on the road this week and will head to San Man Marcos for a Tuesday night tilt with Texas State. First pitch at Bobcat Ballpark is at 6 p.m.
